Canon EOS 5D Mark II Guide

I was a bit cautious about buying this book because a number of other reviews claimed it contained inacuracies, particularly in relation to the Camera's flash capability. Perhaps this book has been revised since those reviews but my copy makes it clear that the flash is an accessory.
Overall I found this book to be well written, comprehensive and generally easy to follow. The layout is excellent and it contains quite a few helpful tips. I would recommend it to anyone who is not a professional photographer and who just wants to get a better understanding of the features of the camera. An excellent guide.

The Best 5D Mark ll Book I've found

I have purchased all the books I could find on the Canon 5D Mark ll and this is by far the best for both content and quality of the physical book. If this had been published sooner I would have saved some $ because it really explains things very well and is very well written. The camera does so many things I was not familiar with and David Busch does an excellent job in his explanations. Also the book is in full color and uses excellent quality paper. This makes the book rather heavy for carrying around in your bag, but it still does not preclude me from having it with me when I am out in the field. I highly recommend this fine volume for anyone who owns the Mark ll or is considering a purchase of one. By the way, the camera is fantastic as well.

First book I ever preordered

This is the first book I was so anxious to get that I preordered it. I am not disappointed. While anticipating the release of Busch's book, I studied other books by various authors on the 5D Mark II as well as David's Busch's books on other camera models. I knew this was the "one." There is really nothing more to add to the earlier reviews except I agree wholeheartedly with every positive comment. I might add however, that as a senior citizen, I appreciate the type style used and the very readable examples and illustrations. The excellent quality of the paper is also what would be expected in a manual for the wonderful 5D Mark II. The manual which came with the camera was frustrating to say the least and now I am confident that I am going to be able to utilize most if not all, of the advanced features of this wonderful camera. Although I had used a Canon 35mm for years and was familiar with photograpic techniques, this camera and this manual have opened up a new world. After a gresat deal of research, it is satisfying to know that I chose the right camera and the right manual to go with it. Thanks, David.

About the Author
Alfred Edward Wooley Mason was born in 1865. He was educated at Dulwich College before going up to Oxford University. Once his formal education was completed, Mason went on to become an actor, which had been an ambition since schooldays. He began his writing career with historical fiction, but then moved into the arena of politics, becoming a Liberal Member of Parliament for Coventry in 1906. However, his love of writing stayed with him and Mason further developed his repertoire and style to incorporate detective fiction, introducing one of the earliest fictional detectives, Inspector Hanaud, the Gallic counterpart to Sherlock Holmes. His detective fiction contains material clues and spontaneity. Throughout the course of his life Mason produced over thirty titles. The most enduring work is 'The Four Feathers' which is the most filmed work of any writer in the 20th century, with seven versions in all. There have also been many other films and plays based on his novels, including the Hanaud series. A.E.W. Mason died in 1948.

faulty text

There aren't many mountaineering novels, but this is one of them. Like Mason's Four Feathers, it's a romantic adventure story, the final scene set on the great Brenva face of Mont Blanc, though much of the story takes place in England.

A word of warning about this edition; If you look on p. 3, you will see the phrase "humaning her with a smile." The original, of course, reads "humanizing her with a smile." The misprint of "humaning" is also found in the Project Gutenberg version, and I imagine this text has been taken from Gutenberg (which also has some other mistakes in it). So why not simply download the Gutenberg text, which is free, and put up with the misprints? or, if you want a better version, go search one of the used booksellers on the web, and get a used copy of the real thing?

Novel of an early female Alpine climber

Set in the Alpine climbing community in the latter part of the 19th century, this novel sets up suspense, romance, and adventure for Sylvia Thesiger, a young woman climber drawn to the Alps. She leaves her mother's overbearing yet heedless care to go live with the father she's never met. Meanwhile, she meets climber Hilary Chayne, and together they uncover a plot which endangers a young man with links to both.

The book was written in a very old fashioned manner. good for seeing what victorians were really like. Many red herrings that just vanished. There was no explanation of why the leading bad guy changed his identity, and how he intended to kill his victim on the Old Brenva Route on Mt. Blanc.
The heroine was too prim and proper. how can one read a novel without the slightest hint of spicy nights.
Chamonix is not in Switzerland!

About the Author
�A.J. (Lonnie) Strickland received a BS in Math and Physics from the University of Georgia, an MS in Industrial Management from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD from Georgia State university. He currently holds the rank of Professor of Strategic Management in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Alabama. He has done extensive consulting and research work. In recent years, he was honored with the Outstanding Professor Award for the Graduate School of Business, and was the recipient of the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award for the University of Alabama.

John E. Gamble is currently Associate Dean and Professor of Management in the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama. His teaching specialty at USA is strategic management and he also conducts a course in strategic management in Germany, which is sponsored by the University of Applied Sciences in Worms. Dr. Gamble's research interests center on strategic issues in entrepreneurial, health care, and manufacturing settings. His work has been published in various scholarly journals and he is the author or co-author of more than 50 case studies published in an assortment of strategic management and strategic marketing texts. He has done consulting on industry and market analysis for clients in a diverse mix of industries. Professor Gamble received his Ph.D. in management from the University of Alabama in 1995. Dr. Gamble also has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alabama.

Great prequel novella-Brian is such a bad boy

REVIEW: YOUR MAGIC TOUCH is a prequel novella in Susan Squires The Children of Merlin series focusing the Tremaine family. The Tremaine's are a magically gifted family (descended from Merlin) whose members come into their powers when they meet their `other half and soul mate.' This is Brina and Brian's (the parents) back story told in flashbacks, present day and memories. The storyline also advances the series several months if not a year.

Susan takes the reader on a journey of memories and love, fear and passion. We watch as Brian and Brina struggle to reveal the exact nature (to their children) under which they were first introduced while avoiding the intimate details about when and how they came fully into their powers-Brina as a healer/Brian as an adapter. There are some lines parents should never cross ;)

The amazing thing about this particular storyline is the `Brina and Brian' we never knew. We caught a glimpse of Brian's personality in He's A Magic Man-a take no prisoners attitude-one that would die to protect his children, but it is his past that was a bit of a surprise-Brian was a wee bit of a `bad boy' ;)

YOUR MAGIC TOUCH also explains a little of the history of their magical ancestry as well as we encounter a current nemesis in all of her glory when she hopes to pull the young couple into her plans. But if it wasn't for this woman, Brina and Brian may have never met.

Your Magic Touch is a wonderful storyline, rich in backstory history that is a welcome addition to the Children of Merlin series. I am a fan of prequel novellas especially when the hero and heroine are already an established couple. It is great to learn about their past life and history. Susan writes an amazing new series with The Children of Merlin and the Tremaine family.

You do have to get into the whole series of the Children of Merlin. I read this after the first 2 books in the series and enjoyed it as well as the others. I am looking forward to the next books.

A Wonderful Novella

Your Magic Touch is a novella about how the whole series began - a prequel so to speak.
I loved seeing the parents as young people, and getting more details about how the conflict of the series began.

It was wonderful -- a well-written fast read.

Such an impressive box set to have! This books are great for those who want to learn basic computer programming language for storing data.
It is great for young kids as well as adults. It is a beginners guide and anyone can learn in just one day.
The way it is explained helps a lot for a person like me who has no idea what SQL is.the examples are clear and easy to understand and implement

DONT WASTE MONEY ON THIS TITLE!

This book is a bunch of pdfs that can be downloaded free. It is fulfilled by a print on demand place. The writing is comparable to a 5th grader who is in "special kid" classes. Typos, missing words, bad translation and a hint of Asian ESL makes this book next to useless.

I now have created my own website with HTML and CSS3 where I have incorporated a blog.

I was interested in HTML and I needed a book that cover everything from A to Z. I searched the web but I only encountered inaccurate HTML guides. However, a friend of mine recommended me this books so I tried it. I have to say, I am very happy that I bought this one! It was able to show me the basics of HTML, it also showed the basics of CSS3 and it even showed me how to make a blog page. I now have created my own website with HTML and CSS3 where I have incorporated a blog. Thank you very much for this book!

Tissue engineering is a complex and emerging field of study that combines basis biological sciences (molecular, cell, and tissue biology and physiology), engineering fundamentals (fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, materials science, chemical kinetics), clinical aspects (surgery, transplantation, immunology, pathology, radiology) and biotechnology (cell culture, cell separations, gene transfer). All these disciplines converge to study of tissue dynamics that coordinate tissue repair, replacement, and reconstruction. These are procedures and therapies in which cells themselves act as the therapeutic agents.

This book on tissue engineering is the first textbook in this field and it offers the convergence of important fundamental concepts in biology, engineering, medicine, and biotechnology. These diverse concepts are carefully organized and laid out in a clear framework to orient students entering the field. This framework includes four parts:

  • Part I: Quantitative Cell and Tissue Biology—Including tissue organization, tissue dynamics, morphogenesis, stem cells, cellular fate processes, and their coordination.
  • Part II: Cell and Tissue Characterization-Including high-throughput technologies, cell and tissue properties, cell and tissue culture, and gene transfer
  • Part III: Engineering Methods and Design-Including time constant analysis, scale-up procedures, cell separations, biomaterial scaffolds, and how to tailor biomaterials
  • Part IV: Clinical Implementation-Including conventional approaches to tissue repair, host integration, and producing tissue-engineered therapies.

This book thus offers the basics of this emerging field to the student and a framework in which instructors can build comprehensive courses, with the flexibility to emphasize and expand on any particular topic.

Tissue engineering holds the promise to repair or replace damaged organs. As a discipline, the field has evolved dramatically from its origins in the late 1980s. In particular, the rapid advances in stem cell biology have rekindled the enthusiasm use cell-based approaches for the treatment of disease. For success in this area, must learn to manipulate, produce, and deliver collections of cells as building blocks of tissues. Transplanted cells and tissue constructs are influenced by their microenvironment and can be manipulated to effectively interact with patients.

The underpinnings of tissue engineering are thus broad, and span a wide spectrum of scientific and engineering fundamentals. This list includes basic biological sciences (cell biology, physiology, embryology, and wound healing); engineering fundamentals (fluid dynamics, transport phenomena, materials science, mechanics, and chemical kinetics); many clinical aspects (surgery and transplantation, immunology, pathology, radiology, and medicine), and various relevant biotechnologies (cell culture, cell separation, and gene transfer). This long list of specialized knowledge makes it challenging to organize all the necessary background material for the student of tissue engineering in a clear and succinct manner.

In writing this book, we aimed to lay the foundation for students studying tissue engineering at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. We have attempted to provide a conceptual framework that includes exposure to all of the necessary background material. Thus, we cannot treat any particular subject in great detail but rather can provide the needed conceptual background in all areas. Instructors will find this text to be a useful framework since it is amenable to augmentation based on the instructors area of expertise and desired focus of a course in tissue engineering. The text is written primarily for senior bioengineering students or first-year graduate students and assumes a working knowledge of the engineering fundamentals. In this spirit, we have provided a series of engineering-style homework problems and solutions in order to allow students to work through the concepts presented. Nonetheless, we also hope that the text will be useful to traditional engineering students, material scientists, medical students, laypeople, and biologists.

We have chosen to present the material in four parts: quantitative cell and tissue biology, cell and tissue characterization, engineering methods and design, and clinical implementation. Throughout the text, we have emphasized relevant time and length scales of physicochemical processes in cell biology and medicine. Armed with these fundamentals, we seek to have students establish a conceptual framework within which to place further advances in the field. Many societal and technical challenges still remain for the field to move forward, and we have highlighted these to the extent possible.

Writing a textbook like this one is a significant undertaking. There are many individuals and organizations to thank for helping us with various aspects of the writing process. Very brief explanation, hard to follow

This text book was nothing I expected. The topics are not explained in detail. There are lot of mathematical models, but they are not explained at all! The content is hard to follow and definitely not suitable to undergraduate students. They assume that the reader already knows lot of the topics and the mathematical equations, so I do not see why the authors expected people to even buy the book!!
