Good guidelines on what to do after a disaster.

Though we live an area prone to disasters or not, survival techniques will always be useful, I believe. Most disasters are unpredictable, we may have high technology gadgets now which can detect typhoons and other calamities but being prepared will give us a better chance of surviving before, during and after the disaster.

This book gave tips and guidelines which are simple to do but most of the time overlooked like checking the utilities for example. Some of the guidelines provided are familiar but I really liked that the author explained each with good details and his idea about the matches is really smart! I never have thought of that, honestly.

This book certainly gave good guidelines on how to survive after a disaster. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in having the basic knowledge about surviving. Good read!

Excellent book!

This is one of the most useful book I have come across. It provides a lot of really good tips on how to survive with the choices you make such as food, your water, how and what to start a fire with and most importantly how to get rescued. One thing I love about this one is that it not only has great contents that I can't find on google but also comes in a very logical order which makes it surreal to read as if I'm going through a disaster. This is definitely the one I'll keep up on my shelf with a flashlight so I can follow it when natural disaster hits.

Valuable guide!

I think the author deserves an award for writing this book! This guide is very detailed and he left out nothing! I am grateful that my family has not been effected by any natural disasters. It is at times like these that we really see what and who is really important in our lives.

One of the first and important tips mentioned in the book is to ensure that yourself and family members are unharmed and if they are deal with their injuries first. Some people might ignore these matters but it is important to educate ourselves on the topic.

Ultimate eye-opener on the business of hiding money!

Amazing body of work based on a huge amount of private company data provided by an anonymous whistleblower employee of one of the most notorious law firms who set up shell companies offshore in international tax havens. The technical workings are beyond my knowledge of financial doings, but the writers make the points quite digestible as to the damage this "other world" of the super-wealthy does to society as a whole. EVERYONE who cares about income inequality should read this book!!! Only well-informed people can take the steps needed to force our government representatives to change the laws to the side of fairness and transparency.

A good book for those who love the beauty of numbers

"A Geometric Analysis of the Platonic Solids and Other Semi-Regular Polyhedra" by Kenneth J.M. MacLean is quite the mouthful of a title to read. The title will entice those who love numbers but will be off-putting to those who don't, which is a shame because Mr. MacLean does a good job of showing the reader the beauty of numbers and the relationships between them.

The book has over 140 full-color illustrations which help to demonstrate just what concept the author is trying to describe. He often gives a solid illustration and then breaks it down into its components. For example, chapter 12 is about the Rhombic Dodecahedron which has a picture of what it would look like as a solid object but then Mr. MacLean breaks it down into its components: 12 faces, 14 vertices, 24 sides or edges. He then goes on to explain why it is called a rhombus, how to find the volume, the surface angles, and the Dihedral angle. I admit that I did get a little lost in the formulas.

My favorite parts where when the author talked about the Phi Ratio and the Fibonacci Series. The Phi Ratio is also known as the Golden Ratio and is about proportion and shows the person how to see the "relationship between one quantity and another quantity." The Fibonacci Series is perhaps the most beautiful way to talk about nature and the universe and Mr. MacLean includes real photos in this section of a nautilus shell, a molded wax agave and a sunflower to demonstrate what the Fibonacci Series is. He also illustrates the Fibonacci Series on the human body relationships.

This book is for those who love numbers for they will be drawn to the formulas and the illustrations and will be able to appreciate the beauty of it all. For those who find numbers and math as something to be afraid of or as something that is too hard to understand, they can still enjoy the illustrations but will be overwhelmed with the more technical nature of the book.

I was a little worried when I first agreed to review this book because, even though I loved Geometry in school, it has been several years since I took the class. But I found "A Geometric Analysis of the Platonic Solids and Other Semi-Regular Polyhedra" to be very reader-friendly. The author's enthusiastic approach to geometry immediately drew me in. The definitions and the clearly-defined illustrations (over 140 throughout the book) also brought me up-to-speed very quickly. This book is an excellent resource for those studying geometry and I wish that something like this had been available to me when I was in school.

The author introduces a geometric explanation of Phi Ratio, the Fibonacci Series and the Pentagon. I was particularly fascinated with the Fibonacci Series and its relationship to nature. Once you really start understanding the sequence of the Fibonacci Series it becomes really obvious in many life forms from plants to shells to the human body. It repeatedly shows the incredible intelligence behind every form of life on this planet and that nothing is created randomly. The book also includes an investigation of the five Platonic Solids and other prominent polyhedra. Each theory includes very detailed reference charts and diagrams.

The author states that "A Geometric Analysis of the Platonic Solids and Other Semi-Regular Polyhedra" is for teachers, researchers and the Generally Curious. As one of the Generally Curious I found this to be an excellent book and would recommend it to anyone who is studying Geometry or has an interest in Math. The Prerequisites listed are: knowledge of simple algebra and elementary trigonometry. No brainiac math skills required! You only need the ability to appreciate nature's own logic. I applaud the author's fascinating approach to this topic.

These stories are out of order.

Content-wise, these stories are standard later Braun.

It is disconcerting, however, that "The Cat Who Moved a Mountain" isn't followed by "The Cat Who Wasn't There," "The Cat Who Went into the Closet," and "The Cat Who Came to Breakfast," which is the correct chronological order and also the order in which they were originally published.

The last two stories in this compilation, "The Cat Who Blew the Whistle," and "The Cat Who Said Cheese" should follow the stories above.

Because of this, plot elements suddenly appear in "Whistle" and "Cheese" that are only explained in the following compilation.

This rearrangement of the stories is peculiar and confusing. I surmise that Putnam somehow screwed up. I hope if the books are republished that they will be grouped in the correct order: (Mountain, Wasn't There, Closet) and (Breakfast, Whistle, Cheese)

Lilian Jackson Braun's books are always entertaining and delightful. She includes a lot of detail about the countryside and the people. There are no gory details about any of the crimes, no explicit sex scenes, just plain simple entertainment.

The first two in this book I had never read, but the third, I remembered some things, but I didn't remember who did it. The condition was exactly as stated which did not take away from the enjoyment

Very readable and greatly insightful

I think this book provides the most accurate view of Dennis Nilsen the man and the killer. It is disturbing to see how well he fit in superficially with those around him.
