Will Slatyer's naval career, which included a number of years as a Clearance Diver, taught him basic group psychology and the need for group discipline. His commercial career as a commodities broker, commodity futures manager and merchant banker led him to pattern and cyclical research for risk management. Skills learned included technical analysis of financial markets which led to use of cycles to assist forecasting. On retirement Will was engaged often as a foreign exchange risk management expert in litigation. Access to many cultures during regular world travel indicated the need for a recorded flow of international history as aginst the common historical literature focusing on one culture only.
