Your sporting library will never be complete without this book.

You don't have to buy this book; it's all online. You can choose to read it on your computer screen in a week (as I did when I discovered and got hooked on Vern's Blog before the book was published) or you can have this incredible collection of profound thoughts by one of the world's greatest coaches and sport philosophers in your hands whenever you need it.

Vern's writing, unlike many of the sporting books I've read, always leaves me with the sensation that it was written for me. His style - simple and yet so thought provoking - is virtually unmatched in the sporting world. After skimming through the first few pages you'll find yourself having to close the text to digest the entries, only to realize how beneficial they can be to any sport enthusiast, especially to the elite athlete and coach.

Athletes often enquire about the secrets of champions. Some say there are no secrets; some say there are quite a number, you just have to find them. I would say many of the secrets are in this book, carefully concealed until somebody makes us aware of them; things such as meticulous planning, having optimal communication skills and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Sometines it takes decades to arrive at an 'Aha' moment. Vern's work might help us get there a little earlier, though there are no major shortcuts.

The only thing I did not like about this book is its price but I reasoned I would be paying a much higher price not to have it in my library.

Isabel Allende never fails to impress me with her writing. My mother was from South America and moved to the US when she was in her mid 20's. I always sensed some sadness from her but while I was reading My Invented Country, I understood so much more about her feelings for "home". Please enjoy.

The author is well known for his numerous writings for electronic hobbyists in books and magazine columns. This book follows the pattern with adequate presentation of theory, well-designed circuits and clear explanations of devices presented.

If you are interested in experimenting with non-coherent (non-laser) light sources as communication devices, here is a good place to start, although once you learn a bit of theory you will want something more advanced. This book is aimed at the competent hobbyist with the means and ability to construct simple electronic devices and conduct experiments. It might be suitable for a club or a classroom or be useful to motivate bright but directionless students.

Topics covered;
o Historical material and modern applications.
o Light sources: lasers, LEDs etc, the physics behind them and how this is applied in practice.
o Some free-space optical theory, lenses etc.
o Optical fibre
o Optical communications circuits. These are all simple analogue circuits mostly using pulse modulation but they can be used immediately to construct working systems.
o Optical communication systems design methods.

No, you're not crazy! All those people really do have issues! Then you go home and get an ulcer stressing over the fallout of their disruptive, destructive, confusing and just plain aggravating behavior....well, STOP THAT! You don't realize it now, but you can categorize all the people in you life once you read this book...and once you do, you start picking them off by their "tell tale" behaviors and STOP TAKING THEM AND THEIR BEHAVIOR PERSONALLY!

No more confusion, you can see people for what they are and their behavior for what it is after studying this book...keep it handy, you'll need to reference! Suddenly things don't seem to effect you emotionally to the degree they once did because you won't take these people and their behavior personally anymore...well, sometimes things are still over the edge, but as a rule, your life changes as you begin to gain more control over the things you used to think "happened to you" that you had no control over. You'll quickly analyze people and their behavior, put them in a category...or two, or three...and know how to deal with them in a way that helps neutralize the anxiety, stress, aggravation, hurt and general trauma they generally caused you.

***On a separate note, if you are already pretty well versed in abusive personalities, personality disorders, coping mechanisms, etc this book may seem a bit elementary, BUT it is still an invaluable quick reference and touches on some personality types that don't necessarily fall into other areas of study. In addition, even when areas of study are familiar, there are always different angles, alternate analyzations and new perspectives that may bring things into a new light. That is certainly what happened for me in one of the sections I was breezing through because I "already knew it well"...suddenly a point was phrased in a way that shed light new on a subject I was already very well schooled in and I saw a whole new perspective. SO, just because this book is written in a very approachable fashion doesn't mean you won't still find insight and learn something new. It's really worth a look for anyone who may need to tangle with this subject matter for any reason.

As Good As Its Gonna Get

I've read a lot of dealing with bullies and difficult people books. This, even if short on effective strategies that won't get you fired, is still valuable for very accurate descriptions of difficult people and how they tend to function interpersonally. I would say his descriptions of their behaviors are what lend the greatest value to this book as it helps you to identify exactly what you're seeing when your face to face with a trouble maker or bully. Its an easy read too.

Still would like to see more practical strategies though. The thing is, I don't think, after so much reading I've done, that there is much you CAN do to significantly influence the outcome of interactions with difficult people. I think these difficult people intentionally withhold cooperation and there's just no way around that without authority or power or management support. Especially when its a boss or a bullying boss's pet.

I'd say use the advice in this book with caution as you may end up finding yourself fired if you use some of the strategies offered in dealing with the bullying types. No bully likes to be challenged or allows people to stick up for themselves without some form of professional backlash. Still though, its about the best advice I've read so far.

Thank you Mr. Bramson for writing this book, Coping with Difficult People. I got this book to help me cope with my adult son who just moved back in the house again. Yet as I was reading it I saw this book as a way to help me over my own difficult side. I can be ust as difficult as the next person out there. I never imagined it would help me deal with myself. As I continue to read this I am sure I will pick up different feelings and tools on coping with not only the difficult people around me but more insight on how to deal with myself. If you are searching for a book to help you cope with a difficult boss, co-worker, family member, or any one else I'd say why not give this a chance. The VB-MAPP is fantastic!

We really have come to embrace the VB-MAPP. The Ages associated with the Levels helps teachers and parents grasp where their children are developmentally. The Barriers section is also very useful in terms of helping educators focus on the most urgent needs and helping parents understand what stands in the way of rapid growth. Really well thought out!

I consult for families of young children with various developmental delays and disabilities, and I have found that using the VB-MAPP has helped me to create the most effective and relevant program in terms of teaching these children skills that will replace challenging behaviors, which are often the result of these skill deficits. EXCELLENT assessment!

Love the VB-MAPP!!!

I love this product! The guide outlines IEP goals based on the results in the student protocol. I use it with all of my students. It is not nearly as time consuming as the ABLLS-R. It is easy to navigate, understand and explain student progress.
