Just what we needed

My daughter decided, after performing in The Little Mermaid, Jr. in our local theater, to sing the full Broadway production version of a couple of the songs. This book gave her the sheet music with all the original lyrics she needed to learn. Nice big book, well bound, is now dog-eared but intact. Served its purpose!

It has almost every song, I am a little disappointed that it doesn't have the Part of Your World Reprise, but that's okay
It got here early and I'm very happy
I can't wait to learn all this music

This book really helped me

I was at the point of great destruction in my new marriage, when I came across this book. Although my husband and I had been going out for 7 years before we got married, I always thought things would change, for the better when we tied the knot, but it didn't.This book helped me to realise that love is a decision and as Christians we shouldn't give up and that through God anything could happen. Don't give up read this book!!!!

It's a great book to use to help create a better home

Literally the best travel guide I've ever purchased

This is the BEST Guide you can find for this trip.

I took the Trans Siberian railway last summer and this book had way more information than any other guide we saw people carrying. I can confirm that every single thing that is said on the book is just like it is in reality when you are on the train, visiting cities and organizing the trip. Moreover, the historical information provided by the book helped us understand the political past of every country we went through (we took the trans-mongolian so we went through Russia, Mongolia and China) and the stories on how the railway was built and its initial purpose really helped us understand its historical context.
Literally the best travel guide I've ever purchased. You won't regret buying it when you spend so many hours on the train!

Good book---I'm going. Getting Russia/China Visas is a pain in the Ars. These countries should be encouraging one to visit and spend money-----not throw up stumbling blocks.

About the Author
Forrest Baird has taught at Whitworth since 1978. In addition to teaching a variety of courses in philosophy, most summers he teaches for Fuller Theological Seminary in extension programs throughout the West. Dr. Baird has a B.A. from Westmont, an M.Div. From Fuller, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from Claremont Graduate University. In his time at Whitworth, Dr. Baird has been selected by five graduating classes as the "Most Influential Professor" and has also been voted "Teacher of the Year" by his colleagues. Dr. Baird has studied the problem of evil while a Resident Fellow at the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research at St. John's University and Abbey in Collegeville, MN, and more recently has been studying Chinese philosophy. Dr. Baird's most recent scholarly work has been editing the six-volume Philosophic Classics series for Prentice Hall. His other works include editing the book, Human Thought and Action: Readings in Western Intellectual History, and co-authoring (with Jack Rogers) the HarperCollins textbook, Introduction to Philosophy: A Case Study Approach.

The anthology I use to teach 17th and 18th Century philosophy

I don't usually like anthologies and rarely teach from them -- I tend to prefer a primary text approach, partly because it allows students to see the development of ideas in their full context and because I expect philosophy students to be interested in developing their personal library of philosophy. This volume, however, is an exception and I've been using this volume for several years (and three separate editions) to teach my "History of Philosophy: 17th and 18th Century." Since I try to cover quite a bit in the course (empiricism, rationalism, social contract theory, transcendental philosophy -- in the works of Descartes, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Pascal, Berkeley, Hume, Spinoza, Leibniz, and Kant), but don't have the time to read everything by every thinker, this volume is almost perfect. It has almost everything I cover and includes both good brief introductions and fairly broad excerpts from each thinker. There is enough, at least, to illustrate the general approach and broad themes and key issues from most every thinker it includes. I've looked at a few other anthologies of Modern philosophy and they are usually either too specific (e.g. focused on 17th but not 18th century philosophy) or too broad and narrow in their coverage. This one is just right, and would be an excellent volume to get for an orientation to the basic problems of modern philosophy that sets the stage for both 19th Century continental thinkers like Hegel and Schopenhauer and Marx and Nietzsche and Kierkegaard, as well as for 20th century developments in both analytic (that picks up from Hume and to a lesser degree Kant and largely bypasses the German Idealist movement) as well as continental philosophy (in Heidegger, Sartre, etc.).

One quibble: I do wish there was more from Rousseau -- the latest volume has excerpts from the Social Contract and while that may be his most historically important work it doesn't show as clearly as some of his other works his distinctive approach to thinking -- that does not fall clearly under a rationalist or empiricist label. To give a better flavor of Rousseau I supplement this volume with Hackett's translation of the Second Discourse (On the Origins of Inequality).

Definitely adequate, but could be improved

Volume 1 of the "Philosophical Classics" series, edited by Forrest E. Baird, provides an adequate range of primary-source writings from the standard ancient philosophers. Starting with the pre-Socratics (including Pythagoras, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Anaxagoras, Gorgias, and others, the anthology moves on to Socrates/Plato and Aristotle. (Significant selections from a number of Plato's dialogues are included.) Later Greek and Roman philosophers, such as Epicurus, Zeno of Citium, Epictetus, Leucretius, Marcus Aurelius, Sextus Empiricus, and Plotinus are also included, but are given less space than Plato or Aristotle.

While the volume contains an adequate number of representative selections from the ancient world for use in a course in Ancient Philosophy, there is far less by way of editorial introduction than would be ideal to guide the reader through these selections. In general, there is a very brief introduction to the thought of each philosopher whose writings are anthologized, followed by the writings themselves without further editorial comment. For example, the Republic of Plato, from which there is an extensive selection running some 70 pages, is discussed very briefly and superficially in two paragraphs in the editorial introduction to Plato's thought as a whole. This is certainly inadequate to prepare the student for what to look for as he or she reads through the Republic.

This anthology is an expensive attempt to clone Hackett's Modern Philosophy, edited by Ariew and Watkins. The Hackett reader is almost half the price of this one and includes far better translations.

allowed me to quickly grasp the concept of agile/scrum

The book was very easy to read and understand. Coming from a traditional waterfall project process this book has allowed me to quickly grasp the differences between it and agile/scrum. I now feel ready to further explore and educate myself before applying it.

Excellent quick introduction to Scrum

This was very helpful to me at work, where I am exposed to many Scrum-related email broadcasts. Although I am not directly involved in the software development process, I support it on the infrastructure side by building new servers and VMs. I now find myself reading these emails rather than deleting them! It makes things a little more interesting...
