This is an excellent book for any iOS developer or enthusiast wanting to learn how to code an app from soup to nuts for iOS 9 using Swift. Matthijis shows great attention to detail. Everything is well explained and illustrated. Lots of detailed examples, lots of exercise (and all explained and answered) make this book very entertaining and educational. I enjoyed the way concepts were introduced. In particular, I loved his explanation of using enums to represent state in an app.

Overall, very satisfied. I highly recommend this title.

Perfect IOS book for beginner

Awesome book. The author is very funny. He wrote a lot of joke that you would not feel boring when you read concepts. This book include all of details, explanations, images and even possible happened bugs. However, this book is not good for people who has swift experience. I strongly recommend you if you are new to IOS and want to start learning swift.

Great book for someone new to iOS and writing code. I'm 4 months new to code and iOS (with a high aptitude for learning) I see this book as a great jumping off point to building a foundation of knowledge to build upon. 100 pages in and everything makes sense.

Especially with describing some of the concepts I have learned in the past months as the data starts to sink in.

Anyone new to iOS this is a great book that takes you step by step. Which in my opinion is what every good teacher or tutorial based book should do.

About the Author

Robert Reid, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He has done extensive work nationally and internationally on children with ADHD and on cognitive strategy instruction. He has also conducted research with youth in residential settings and in out-of-home care. Dr. Reid has published over 100 articles and book chapters as well as the coauthored ADHD Rating Scale–IV, which is now used in seven countries, and presents at national and international conferences. He is a recipient of the Special Education Student Research Award from the American Educational Research Association and the Jeannie P. Baliles Child Mental Health Research Award from the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. Dr. Reid currently serves on the editorial boards of five journals and actively reviews for a number of others.�Joseph Johnson, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Prior to earning his doctorate in special education, he taught in public secondary schools for over 13 years, including 6 years as a special education teacher in both resource and cotaught classrooms. His interests include cognitive strategy instruction and academic interventions for adolescents with ADHD.

Enjoyable & Informative for Every Reader

I read this book from cover to cover as part of a Special Ed course on the educational implications of ADHD. The thing that surprised me most about this textbook is that it was actually very enjoyable to read. Reading this book is similar to attending a lecture that is presented in such a way that one can easily remember even the most complex concepts that were covered, even without having had to take extensive notes. I recommend this book to general educators, special educators, families of children with ADHD, and people with ADHD. Everyone will benefit from the information included, especially the multitude of practical advice for effective teaching.

Moonlight and Roses: Romance in the midst of vineyards and wine country

Jackie Braun's MOONLIGHT AND ROSES is a short tender romance that pits adversaries together and against each other. The scenery and language of viniculture and viticulture gives this romance a realistic and informative setting that complements the characters.

Jaye Monroe's entire life has been turned inside out when her father dies and his will is read. Alongside her father, Jaye has built the Medallion wine brand with her heart and soul. Her father's will turns the winery and vineyards over to her step-mother and gives Jaye her step-mother's house with all the antiques and items she despises. Jaye's step-mother makes matters worse by selling the vineyards and company to an outsider, Zack Holland. Zack, heir to a renowned prize-winning California winery, wants to strike out on his own and forget the pain of his family and past. When he encounters Jaye, a strong woman and a bit of a tomboy, he is dazzles by her looks, intelligence and spirit. Can the two of them work together for the good of Medallion when their ultimate business plans conflict so? When their physical attraction can no longer be denied, will they be forced to choose between love and business?

In MOONLIGHT AND ROSES, Jackie Braun creates emotional depth at the same time that the conflicting business interests of the hero and heroine create a fun, suspenseful romantic conflict. Readers will appreciate the strong intelligent Jaye as a heroine whose spirit shines in all she does. Zack, a dreamer and a realist, is a perfect match for Jaye as he values what is most dear to her but also adds his own vision to the business. The narrative style flows smoothly while providing delightful surprises. Jackie Braun's MOONLIGHT AND ROSES is a delightful romance on all levels from emotional content to stylistic form.

Great romance

This is the story of Jaye Monroe, whose stepmother sells her family's winery out from under her. New owner Zack Holland desperately needs a new start, and while he is shocked to learn Jaye was opposed to the sale, he can't afford to back down.

What worked so well with this book is that there was a lot of incentive for both characters to behave cruelly and immaturely, but they didn't. Put into a very difficult position, they earned their respect from each other and made the best of the situation. Watching them fall in love was a pleasure because they were both screwed-up yet good people who deserved their happy ending. And what a well-written happy ending it was.

Jackie Braun did her research when it came to the technicalities of owning and running a vineyard, and I appreciated all those touches of realism that brought the setting and the situations to life. She really transports the reader there.

This was my first book by this author and I'm very impressed.

The sequel to Red Mars details an early 22nd-century Mars controlled by Earth's metanationals, gigantic corporations intent on exploiting Mars. Debate among the settlers--some native-born, some the surviving members of the First Hundred--is divided between the minimalist areoformists, who have come to love Mars in all its harshness, and the terraformists, who want to replicate Earth. As the surface of Mars warms and is seeded with genetically altered plants, the settlers await Earth's self-destruction, which they hope will give them a chance to claim their independence. They travel endlessly over every inch of Mars--no mean feat, since most of the First Hundred are criminals wanted for their roles in the failed revolt of 2061--with each kilometer and each group of settlers they meet described in laborious detail. When they're not traveling, these colonists contemplate the history of which they have been a part and which they can only partially recall as a result of their longevity treatments. With the collapse of Earth society and internecine battles among the metanationals, the Martian settlers liberate their cities and declare their planet free. This wide-ranging novel is loaded with all manner of scientific and historical detail, but the story bogs down under its very breadth and seems almost like a Martian year--twice as long as it needs to be. The next and final volume in the trilogy will be Blue Mars .

Although it can be read independently, it continues and expands upon the themes introduced in the first volume, and is notable for its examination of issues related to ecology and the humans' relationship with the planet. The story is told from a variety of viewpoints, the first of which is that of a Martian-born boy. A well-written title, rich in contemporary concerns, that belongs in all science fiction collections.

Perhaps A Hundred Pages Too Long

The second book of Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy starts with great promise - some of the same characters, some interesting new characters, some old problems, some interesting new problems - and the plot begins developing nicely. But somewhere along the way the book slows waaaaaay down and I found it difficult to keep my focus. Many of the book's discussions are intricate and interesting: philosophies of engineering an ecosphere, adapting to life on Mars, social structures of new cities, attitudinal differences among generations, and the like. But regrettably, some of those discussions drag on and on and on and become tedious and distracting. I plowed through to the end, but it was plowing indeed and I may have been happier just to finish than I was with the novel's resolution.

A step or two down from the first novel.

Slow in parts and engaging in others. Here Robinson attempts to highlight the social evolution of mars and clearly gets bogged down at times instead of concentrating on small picture happenings to highlight big picture trends which while a good educational exercise makes for bad fiction. Hes best when concentrating on the characters both new and established. Though some stories go nowhere and others have little to no payoff. My hope is that this trend reverses itself for the third novel. However it is to be noted that this is what can be difficult about telling the story of a planet as opposed to a person.

A science fiction masterpeiece with real-world relevance

This is the second book in the Mars trilogy, which should be read as one book -- Red, Green, Blue. Robinson has a rare combination of gifts: a gear-head's technical savvy, a scientist's speculative sophistication ... the natural feel for narrative of a born story-teller, and the style of a poet. It's a powerful array and makes for a compulsively readable, intellectually stimulating and often quite moving epic -- an intimate epic, the best kind. His characters, especially the "first 100", wind up living extended lives through genetic manipulation and so experience first hand the tremendous changes that transform their adopted planet. The struggles between those who wish to leave Mars as it is and those who want to remake it as an alternate Earth, between "metanational" corporations who want to pilfer Mars for its natural resources, governments who want to use immigration there as a safety valve for their own over-population problems cast a prescient reflection on the real difficulties currently afflicting our own planet. These books, first published in the 1990s, have long been known as masterpieces of science-fiction -- but they deserve a mainstream readership as well. Peerless. Read them now, so you can gripe about the upcoming TV version!
